For what matters most
Who we are
We are a specialist provider of Small Self-Administered Schemes (SSAS)
We’ve been a provider of SSASs since 2010. However, our directors have been involved with Small Self-Administered Schemes since the 1970s. You benefit from that wealth of knowledge and experience which has been built up over many decades.
Using a SSAS can bring significant benefits to you and your business both now and in retirement. We’re unashamedly conservative in our approach to self-invested pensions though, believing that a SSAS is first and foremost a vehicle for saving for retirement. However, we know that they can provide significant benefits to business owners in the years and decades before retirement.
We also know that running the scheme, and the underlying assets, can be complex. The rules governing pensions have changed significantly over the years and are now more complex than ever. This brings both opportunities and potential pitfalls.
We’re here to help
We’ll use our knowledge and experience to enable you to take advantage of the opportunities and guide you around the pitfalls.
We can work with your existing advisers too. We often work with businesses introduced to us by financial advisers, accountants and solicitors. We’ll communicate clearly with your professional advisers to ensure that we are all pulling in the same direction.
Single point of contact
If you have a SSAS with us, you will have a dedicated single point of contact.
This person will develop a deep understanding of you, your SSAS and your business. They will deal with the day-to-day management of the scheme and be available to answer your questions.
This releases you to spend more time running your business.
Clear communication
As a client of Hartsfield Trustee Services, you will receive:
- Regular valuations of the assets held in your SSAS
- Details of all transactions
- Other updates and information as required
Furthermore, we will provide you with comprehensive administration services and technical guidance, and maintain scheme records. Finally, we will complete all required HMRC and other regulatory reports, assist trustees regarding the purchase and sale of scheme assets, and provide any calculations for members’ benefit payments.
Our clients tell us that this clear communication gives them confidence their SSAS is in safe hands.
The technical part
If you choose us as your SSAS provider, Hartsfield will provide you with a professional trustee through White Horse Trustees Ltd, which is our independent trustee company. Hartsfield Trustee Services Ltd will be the practitioner of your scheme and will act on behalf of the scheme trustees who are the scheme administrators. The scheme practitioner’s role is to guide the trustees on the ever-changing administration and tax rules set out in pensions legislation.
HMRC does not offer ongoing guidance or support to your SSAS directly and the penalties levied for unauthorised payments are severe. It is therefore important to have an experienced scheme practitioner.
You can rest assured that we have the specialist knowledge and experience for this role.
Furthermore, we play a leading role in our profession. We are long-standing members of AMPS (the Association of Member-Directed Pension Schemes). AMPS has more than 150 member firms representing many parts of the member-directed pensions industry, including SSAS practitioners. Our inclusion means that we benefit from shared best practice, which is important in an increasingly fluid pension landscape.
